Corporate Teambuilding Activities

We like to get started with some high energy group activities to get folks loosened up and to introduce goal setting in a fun environment. We want each participant to have the chance to work closely with his coworkers one-on-one. Climbing provides a fun and exciting environment in which these interactions can take place. Team members will get the opportunity to work with several colleagues as they gain confidence and explore new climbs. Depending on your goals for your team, the rest of the workshop may include a variety of climbing activities and initiatives. These activities focus on various aspects of teamwork: communication, trust, decision-making, execution, transition between problems. Some of our favorites are listed on the following pages.

Group Climbing Instruction / Teambuilding Lite

Emphasis: Physical Trust, Support, Communication
This is a group belay lesson followed by 1 hour of climbing technique instruction and little formal teambuilding facilitation. 2 hour program minimum. Pricing is $35/ person and the prices for longer programs are the same as the corporate teambuilding pricing. Perfect post seminar or conference activity and includes full use of the facility (i.e. fitness equipment and classes).

Introductory Initiatives

Introductory initiatives are great for groups meeting for the first time, groups coming together as part of a conference, or as a warm up for any group.

Name Juggling

Emphasis: Fun, Communication, Introduction, Goal Setting
Description: A fun initiative to do first thing. The goal of this initiative is to have your team juggle as many balls as possible. Each team must call aloud the name of the person to whom they throw the ball. When a ball is dropped the team must start again using a new pattern. As a team we will set a goal and try to reach it.

Name Dance

Emphasis: Fun, Concentration, Introduction
Description: This is a great icebreaker for an easy-going group! Each team member will introduce himself and perform his dance move for the group. Each team member must repeat the previous people's names, do their dance move and then add their name and move. When everyone has gone the group is ready to do their team dance. The team all together says each person's name and does each dance move.

Name Pyramid

Emphasis: Fun, Planning, Physical Trust
Description: The team's goal is to build a pyramid consisting of the team members. The group needs to pick who fits where in the pyramid. As each member is added to the pyramid, they must say the name of each person in the pyramid, plus add their own before taking their place.

Climbing Initiatives

Climbing activities provide an exciting way for teammates to learn how to work with each other in a new environment.

Bouldering

Emphasis: Communication, Support
Description: A great introduction to rock climbing and partnership. Teammates will work in pair to explore climbing movement on our 10 foot tall walls.

Toprope Climbing

Emphasis: Transition, Support, Goal Setting, Focus
Description: The team will learn the skills necessary to manage the safety system for climbers to scale our 30 foot tall walls. Climbers will work with various partners to explore increasingly difficult climbing challenges. A fun way to explore setting goals and reaching them.

Bouldering Relay

Emphasis:Planning, Support
Description: For this event we will split your group into at least two teams. The goal here is to see how far each team can move around our donut shaped bouldering area. One member of each team climbs at a time, with the next team member starting where the last left off. Speed is not the object. Each team must decide how to best utilize each member's strength in order to get the team the farthest along the wall.

Blindfolded Climbing

Emphasis: Communication
Description: Your team goal is to help one of your team members climb the wall while blindfolded. The team must create a system that is reasonable for both the climber and the facilitators standing on the ground. Let's see how well your team communicates!

Speed Relay

Emphasis: Support, Fun
Description: This is a good ole' fashioned relay race. With all the cheering, this is perfect way to end the day. A great exercise in group support.

Quick Group Initiatives

Quick, easy initiatives that begin to get into the heart of teambuilding. These initiatives start to lay the foundations of communication, problem solving and teamwork. Start with one or two of these then graduate to one of our trickier initiatives.

All Aboard

Emphasis: Physical Trust, Planning, Communication
Description:The goal is to get your group standing on a platform for a set period of time. This is an easy initiative that gets the group working together and starts building trust within the group.

Human Knot

Emphasis:Problem Solving, Communication, Physical Trust
Description: The goal here is to work together to untie the knot made by your team's own arms. There's no letting go and it ends when the team is standing in a circle. This takes a bit more problem solving and communication than ALL ABOARD… Now you're working together!

Knotted Rope

Emphasis: Communication
Description: This one really gets your team moving! The goal is to untangle a length of rope with anywhere from 8 to 20 knots in it. The problem is the whole team is holding onto the rope with two hands and no one can let go. Get this and move on to the Problem solving initiatives.

Problem Solving Group Initiatives

Effective teamwork is characterized by a group that performs their day to day tasks in an efficient manner that utilizes the skills of all team members. The following initiatives stress the characteristics that make a team successful. Enjoy!

River Crossing

Emphasis: Planning, Communication
Description: Your goal is to move your whole team across a 'river' without anyone falling in. Your team has only 'rocks' (made from woodblocks) and each other as props. The tricky part of this initiative is that the entire team must be holding on to each other the entire time. Great for team problem solving and communication.

Blindfolded Geometry

Emphasis: Problem Solving, Communication, Planning
Description: A more advanced initiative that relies on good team communication. Your team's goal is to make a variety of shapes out of a large loop of rope. The tricky part is every member of your team is blindfolded. Guaranteed to get the group working together!

Trust Falls

Emphasis: Trust, Communication
Description: One of our most trust intensive initiatives. This one takes a lot of teamwork. One member of your team will climb 3 or four feet off the ground. The rest of the team organizes itself behind and gets ready to catch the faller. After some carefully practiced verbal commands, the faller falls into the team's arms. This is a great exercise to build up to, and a heart-racing way to end the day!

Temple of Doom

Emphasis: Problem Solving, Ingenuity, Communication
Description: A real hardcore but fun problem solving initiative. The object is to rescue a can of M&M's from an island in the middle of a lava pool. A circle of rope marks the boundary of the lava pool, and the group is given assorted props to perform the feat. Your team goal is to work together to execute the rescue in a limited amount of time. Good luck!
