Every November for over 10 years, Planet Granite has hosted an exciting HelpHopeLive benefit (in honor of Stacey Collver) called the Mt. Everest Climb-a-thon.

The 2015 Mt. Everest Climb-a-thon is coming up on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, from 12:30-4:30 pm.

After obtaining sponsors climbers arrive at the event at PG Sunnyvale on Nov. 1, determined to climb as many vertical feet as possible in three hours. Afterwards, all the scores will be added together to see if everyone can climb 29,035 feet, the height of Mt. Everest! Those who raise over $100 will receive a T-shirt.

To participate, you can either climb on-site this day, or make a donation and be a “virtual climber.” (Each dollar donated=one vertical foot.) You can also support a friend by sponsoring their climbing. The suggested donation is $25, but additional funds are very much appreciated. The funds are used to offset Stacey’s medical expenses, which are over $1,000/month. Donations are tax-deductible, and some employers will even match your charitable donation.

Stacey has been part of the climbing community for 19 years. She managed Twisters Climbing Gym in Mountain View, CA, and coached a youth team. She founded the Bay Area chapter of SheClimbs in 1996, which is now led by Nicole Bi. In recent years, Stacey also coached children at Planet Granite Belmont.

On Aug. 3, 2003, Stacey Collver was diagnosed with a rare lung disease called Lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Her life was saved by a generous organ donor, Stacey received a double-lung transplant on Nov. 22, 2004.

Nearly 11 years later, she is now in chronic rejection, and her lung function has dropped to 27%. She is currently on the waiting list for a rare second lung transplant. She has been waiting for over 9 months.

Stacey hopes that everyone can come have some fun, and enjoy a good physical challenge. The event has attracted beginner, advanced, and elite climbers such as Josh Levin and Hans Florine.

Hans Florine will be offering a 3-day stay at his Yosemite home, in a silent auction at the climb-a-thon. To buy this prize, you must be present to win.

To participate in the climb-a-thon, download the following forms and register at the HelpHopeLive site. The climb-a-thon is listed under “Fundraising Events.” You can also make donations here.
