This educational 1.5 hour multimedia presentation taught by Mountain Adventure Seminars’ Aaron Johnson provides an overview of the awesome phenomenon of avalanches. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of the formation and release of avalanches. This program is great as a refresher before heading out on a backcountry adventure.

Back for the 3rd year, the Friction Series is starting up again! This time, we’ll be hosting an Onsight Series Final for routes! The top 3 scores in both mens and womens will be invited to compete for up to $150 in cash prizes in our Onsight Series Final taking place at PG Sunnyvale in April.

Friday Apr 8th – PG Sunnyvale + Onsight Series Finals
Comps start at 5pm. Competitors have until 9pm to climb and turn in their top scores. The 3 competitors with the top scores earned throughout the comp series will compete in our action-packed Onsight Series Final. Mark your calendars because this means you have three chances to improve on your overall high score!

These comps are, as always, FREE for PG Members and just $15 for non-members. No pre-registration is required. Join us for three nights of fun, climbing, community, food and raffle prizes.
Series Finalists must be Planet Granite lead certified. Top scores for the series are tallied per comp, and not as a cumulative score.

THE SHARP END is a film about the climbers who push themselves to the limits of adventure, and risk everything on the razor’s edge between success and disaster. Run out trad routes, scary high-ball boulder problems, ice-covered alpine walls and all-or-nothing free-solo ascents form the crucibles in which these climbers push through their fear and discover the uncertain consequences that lie on the other side.
Planet Granite has committed to matching up to $10,000 of funds raised for Unlock Jailhouse over a two week period. This means your $1 will become $2, and $10,000 could be $20,000 for Jailhouse!
Planet Granite has committed to match the funds received through the Access Fund between February 1st and February 15th at www.accessfund.org/jailhouse. In addition, PG will match the funds raised at the PG Sunnyvale event on February 9th – see details below.
Our goal is to raise $10,000, through the Access Fund and through Planet Granite’s fundraising event, which in turn will be $20,000 thanks to PGs commitment to match up to $10,000! If we are successful, this will complete the Access Fund’s goal of raising $40,000 to secure access at this local crag.
In addition, Planet Granite Sunnyvale will be hosting a Special Fundraising Event featuring presentations by Ron Kauk and Jim Thornburg and will host an amazing auction full of gear donated by our cool sponsors.
