PG SAN FRANCISCO HIGH CLIMBING PHOTOS

These are views of the high climbing, which will be located at the South end of the building. The left picture shows the basic frames of the slab wall being built. The right shows the initial stages of the plywood faces. You can also see that the structure for more high climbing is on the left.

A view from further down the gym, looking at the same high climbing. The building is 241 feet long--with lots of high climbing and even more bouldering. Be sure to check out the pictures of the bouldering area! The picture on the left shows a great view of the gym, pre-climbing structures. You can clearly see where the pop-up roof is located in relation to the climbing. The picture on the right shows the initial climbing wall skeletons.

Photos taken March 5th. PG San Francisco will have many cracks dispersed throughout the high climbing areas, including leadable cracks up the "Constant Wall." The left photo shows off a soon to be crack. On the right, Project Engineer, Tonya, and Owner, Micky, are standing in front of what will be a steep lead climbing training ground.

The left photo shows off the angle of the lead climbing area. The climbing will extend into the pop out roof, topping out at 45 feet of vertical gain, but at 25 degree angle!
As if that isn't enough, the pictures below show off the view from the pop out.
The right picture above shows off just how much steel goes into the creation of climbing walls. About 50% of the high climbing steel has been assembled.

The views from the pop out. The left photo shows the view that's accessible to both lead and top rope climbers. The right photo is to the left of where the "Constant Wall", the main lead wall, ends.

In a very short time, the plywood facades have been put in place. The left photo is a view of the first tower. The right photo shows off yet another crack, and even more areas for leading and top roping. On the far right, you can see the skeleton behind the plywood.

PG SF couldn't be made without our construction workers! In the middle is Construction Manager, Shane, putting up the last of the stairs to the stretching area. On the right is our welder and Head Route Setter, Donell.

Looking from the second story workout area out into the climbing. It's hard to tell with just the steel constructed, but you are looking out at the "Constant Wall".
UPDATE: APRIL 20, 2008

Freshly painted walls. On the right photo, you can see the original concrete color,
before it is covered with the stucco.

The first fully complete crack! In total, there will be at leat 9 cracks throughout our gym, including leadable ones!

Panoramic view from the overhead stretching area looking South,
through the high climbing at the Main Lead wall (plywood structure).

Cracks, cracks everywhere! There are over 12 cracks, many leadable, scattered throught the gym. The picture on the far right shows the main lead wall with a couple of cracks too! This wall continues another 12' feet up into the pop-up roof!
Here is the archway between the two main high climbing areas! Check out the crack on the far right. It is adjustable so the route setters can change the crack size periodically! Too Cool!
The miniature climbing models offer a surreal view of what the gym will look like! Kudos to the construction team, the towers actually look an awful lot like the models!
